SAY HELLO TO MY AGENT

Writer + Director + Editor

THE STORY:  A friend needed help building buzz around her new reality show. So I pitched a really funny series we can crank out every week that we would release before the next episode of her show, “SuperAgent” on FX. My friend Phil was a producer and a great actor, and Chad was my Post coordinator. Chad was a natural. Phil has AADA experience. We caught magic in a bottle.

After we made the first episode, we had to make a new episode a week to keep up with the release schedule. That meant I had to figured out a scenario, write some one-liners and then figure out a beginning middle and end. The process was very similar to Curb Your Enthusiasm. Back then our production value was rough and we didn’t have fancy cameras like we do now. Also, we went with a very fast paced, relentless edit style, which was not popular back then but works now.

We made a fake commercial for the agent. How’s this for cameos? One of Chad’s angels went on to become a famous horror movie star and another is now head of marketing at a talent agency. Go Chad!

At one point, a marketing director for a hot video game company who made the best sports game, not EA but 2K, wanted to find a way to use these two characters as part of the viral marketing campaign. They didn’t have money like they do now. Bummer. Still cool we go asked to put a budget together.

We shot short interstitials to create more content for the characters. We call these, “When Chad  met Phil.”
